Previously, only individuals could be inducted into the University of Missouri Intercollegiate Hall of Fame. But this year, the selection committee elected to make a by-law change to allow for the eligibility of teams that win a national championship. Appropriately, the 1954 baseball team that won Missouri's first national title at the College World Series was chosen for induction. Coached by John "Hi" Simmons, the 1954 Tigers posted a 22-4 record, won the Big Seven Conference Championship, and came back through the losers bracket to win the national title, 4-1 over Rollins College. The '54 Tigers were one of six Mizzou teams that Simmons took to Omaha for the CWS.
