Entering her 29th year at Mizzou and her 12th heading up Mizzou's compliance efforts is Mary Austin. In her position as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance, Austin is responsible for ensuring the Mizzou Athletics Department and its teams are compliant with NCAA, Big 12, institutional and federal rules.
Austin is responsible for the compliance office, which is a service-oriented department that provides educational assistance to student-athletes, parents and the Mizzou campus and athletic community regarding rules and regulations. Austin serves as a liaison for the Professional Sports Counseling Panel, the NCAA and the Big 12 Conference. In addition, she has administrative oversight of the Green Tennis Center and the Women's Tennis team.
In the spring of 2003, Austin was selected by her peers to receive the Division I National Association of Athletic Compliance Coordinators Outstanding Achievement Award for her outstanding work in the field. Austin's commitment to the student-athlete was acknowledged in 1999 when she was named the Mick Deaver Award recipient, given annually to individuals on the MU Campus who stand out for fostering student relations. For her expertise in eligibility and financial aid issues, she has been a presenter for NCAA and Big 12 Conference compliance seminars and has served as an expert consultant to other major universities.
A graduate of Mizzou, Austin has a 14-year-old son named Clayton.
