Gatorade, Inc., is the new provider of isotonic beverages for Mizzou Athletics, as announced today by the department. The deal, effective immediately, is a multi-year agreement that will align Mizzou with the industry leader and provide its student-athletes the top scientific products available.
Senior Associate Director of Athletics Mario Moccia, who assisted in the new agreement, said that the deal will provide great benefits for the department.
"Gatorade is the industry leader in the isotonic beverage category and we are happy to have worked this agreement to align ourselves with them for several years to come," he said. "I know our strength and conditioning and athletic training staffs are excited about the new partnership," he said.
Mizzou Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Pat Ivey was equally pleased with the agreement. "This is a positive for our training program," Ivey said. "There is a big difference in my opinion in the benefits that Gatorade offers athletes. We're continually working to improve our program, and this is a big step to take," he said.
Mizzou Head Athletic Trainer Rex Sharp agreed. "Gatorade has extensively researched, and continues to do so through the Gatorade Sports Sciences Institute, the electrolyte and nutritional needs of the entire athletic and physically active population," said Sharp. "We are very pleased to have the opportunity to provide scientifically proven nutritional products to all of our student-athletes," he said.
