Sept. 17, 1999
COLUMBIA, MO, Sept. ___ -- The halftime fireworks show which had been planned for tomorrow's Missouri-Western Michigan football game has been cancelled due to the dry conditions caused by this summer's drought.
Consultations between various campus entities, the City of Columbia and the Columbia Fire Department determined that the cancellation was necessary in the best interest of public safety.
Instead, the co-sponsors of the show - U.S. Cellular and Boone Hospital Center - will use the funds that would have underwritten the fireworks show to provide tickets to underprivileged children so they may attend the Texas Tech game, Oct. 30.
