The University of Missouri Department of Athletics Statewide Outreach program continued on Thursday, as four members of the Mizzou staff traveled to North Missouri. Director of Athletics Mike Alden was joined by the "Voice of the Tigers" Mike Kelly, Special Assistant to the AD Gary Link and Associate Director of Media Relations Josh Murray on the trip, which included stops in Moberly, Macon, Kirksville and Memphis.
The day began with a stop at Moberly Motors to visit with Dean and Ann Miller. That was followed by a visit to Macon Middle and High School.
The Mizzou staffers then headed to Kirksville, where they visited the Adair County Extension Office before speaking at a luncheon at King's Buffet. A group of about 35 attended the event, which was put on by the Adair County Alumni Association.
After the luncheon, Alden and Kelly did interviews with John McConnell of KTUF Radio, an affiliate of the Tiger Network. Before leaving Kirksville, the group visited Truman State University, meeting with TSU Athletic Director Jerry Wollmering.
It was the off to Memphis, where Alden, Kelly, Link and Murray met up with Dr. Harlo Donelson. Dr. Donelson took the MU staff members on a tour of the Scotland High School before they all made their way to Keith's Café, where about 45 Tiger fans gathered. The highlight of the event came when Alden presented Dr. Donelson with a basketball commemorating the 2008-09 Mizzou Basketball season. The ball was signed by all of the members of last year's team.
The Statewide Outreach will continue, with trips planned for the coming months. Stay tuned to mutiges.com for more information.
