Columbia, Mo. - Senior football tight end Clint Matthews and sophomore soccer attacker Aria Hudetz are the Lathrop and Gage Student Athlete-of-the-Week for Sept. 6. Recognized for their accomplishments both in the classroom and on the playing field, Matthews and Hudetz have also contributed their time to local community outreach programs.
A native of Ozark, Mo., Matthews made his first career start for Missouri exactly one year ago today. Taking on the Ball State Cardinals on Sept. 6 2003, Matthews had a career-best two catches for 11 yards. Matthews is an Atmospheric Science major, carries a 3.24 grade-point average and was named to the 2002 and 2003 Academic All-Big 12 teams. During his four years in Columbia, Matthews has dedicated his time to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Football Funtime Clinic.
Hudetz, from Fort Collins, Colo., is in her second year with the Tiger soccer team. Setting a standard in the midfield, she scored her first collegiate goal against then No. 21 Nebraska on Sept. 28, 2003. In all, Hudetz dished out four assists in 2003, including the game-winner against Purdue. A biological science major, Hudetz holds a 3.2 grade-point average and has helped with the starlight literacy program.
The Missouri soccer team will host Stanford Friday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m., and No. 12 Florida on Sunday, Sept. 12, at noon, while the Tiger football team will travel to Troy, Ala., for the Thursday night (Sept. 9) game against Troy University that will be televised live on ESPN2 at 6 p.m. (CT).
