CLEVELAND - It's certainly been a banner year for Missouri Athletics and on the heels of strong showings from Tiger Baseball, Softball and Men's Track and Field at the national level this spring, Missouri finished 38th in the final U.S. Sports Academy's Directors' Cup standings (formerly known as the Sears Directors' Cup) released Thursday afternoon by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
The 38th-place showing is just one off the school's best-ever finish. Mizzou finished 37th following the 2002-03 season and the Top 40 showing in 2008 is second such finish in school history. In fact, since the arrival of Mike Alden as the school's Director of Athletics in 1998, Missouri has averaged a 48th place finish in the Directors' Cup Standings after averaging a 111th-place finish in the years preceding him.
Overall, Missouri finished sixth among Big 12 Conference schools in the standings and second amongst programs in the Big 12 North. Texas led the way in fifth-place nationally, while Nebraska led North programs in 31st.
Below is the list of Big 12 Conference institutions and their finishes in the final Directors' Cup standings.
