Columbia, Mo. - Mizzou Athletics will participate in the Governor's Habitat Challenge on selected dates throughout June and July. More than 20 student-athletes and staff members will travel to Joplin, Mo., on Friday (June 8) to help the community continue its recovery efforts following last May's devastating tornado.

The campaign was announced by Governor Nixon on Feb. 4 at Mizzou Arena during the Mizzou-Kansas Basketball game.

During the program Mizzou will participate in the construction of five homes in the city of Joplin and will also participate in the "Tailgating with the Tigers" event at Cunningham Park with children from area youth summer camps.

Upon arrival on Friday the Tigers will be briefed by officials from Habitat for Humanity and will meet selected families in the community. They will also work a shift in the Habitat ReStore and spent time erecting yard signs at new home sites.

Mizzou will also participate in the Challenge on June 22 and 29, as well as a selected date in July.

Tiger fans are also encouraged to participate in the Governor's Challenge. For more information and to sign-up or donate, please visit www.joplinchallenge.mo.gov.
