The MU-KU Border Showdown trophy
April 29, 2011
Columbia, Mo. – University of Missouri fans can once again enjoy bragging rights over fans of rival University of Kansas, as the Tigers have for the fifth straight year won the M&I Bank MU-KU Border Showdown Series. Mizzou clinched the 2010-11 title this past weekend, when the Tiger men’s golf team finished in fifth place at the Big 12 Championships, ahead of ninth-place Kansas. The higher finish for MU gave the Tigers three points in this year’s standings, which pushed the total to an insurmountable 23.0-to-14.0 lead. With just two regular season points remaining available, the Tigers have clinched the cup for the seventh time in the nine year history of the competition, which began in 2002-03.
“We have a high level of respect for the University of Kansas and our rivalry with the Jayhawks,” said Mizzou Director of Athletics Mike Alden. “We know how important it is to our students, staff, fans and alumni that we see our competition with them as a priority in our program. The Border Showdown is a unique way to honor such a storied rivalry, and we’re very pleased that our program continues its success,” he said.
