COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri junior Erika Josbena and sophomore Jacob Priday were named this week's Lathrop & Gage Varsity M Student-Athletes of the Week for their exceptional contributions to their respective athletic teams, combined with their strengths in the classroom and time spent in the local community.
A native of Rose Valley, Pa., Josbena is a member of the women's tennis team.
An interdisciplinary studies major who she carries a 3.33 grade-point-average, she hopes to attend pharmacy school after graduation. As a singles player in 2006, Josbena is 10-9 on the season, including 2-0 at No. 2 singles. She is also 9-8 as a doubles tandem with junior Amanda Pratzel this season. As a sophomore in 2005, Josbena was third on the team with 20 singles victories and earned All-Big 12 Academic first team accolades.
Priday, an agricultural economics major, is a member of the baseball team at Mizzou and has seen time in the outfield, behind the plate and as the designated hitter in 2006. The Sikeston, Mo., native carries a 3.50 grade-point-average and is a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Priday was a Freshman All-America selection by Baseball America in 2005 and earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors on March 14. In his sophomore season, Priday is second on the team with a .336 batting average and leads the squad with four home runs and 33 RBIs. He was also named Big 12 honorable mention and to the All-Big 12 Tournament Team in 2005.
The Mizzou women's tennis team travels to Texas this weekend for matchups against Texas on Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. and Texas A&M on Sunday, April 23 at 1 p.m. Priday and the Missouri baseball team are home this weekend for a three-game series against Oklahoma State. The Tigers play at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22 and 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 23.
