Hello Tiger Volleyball Fans!
Some of you may not know who I am because this is my first semester in college here at Mizzou. I graduated high school early (in January) so I could start my collegiate career this spring. As you can imagine, the past couple months have been a major transition for me. I am practicing and playing with the team as well as taking a full 15 hour class schedule. I've been learning a lot and gaining some very valuable experience which will put me in a great position to help the team come this summer and fall.
This past weekend we had our first spring tournament in Louisville, Kentucky. We left Columbia Friday after class in two fifteen passenger vans and headed for Louisville. We took advantage of the six hour car ride by using every minute to gain Tiger Cup points. We decorated and organized Jelly Bean bags the entire trip (which I might say got very grueling at times). But we made it through all the Jelly Beans and are distributing them to different senior homes in Columbia this week.
Our first match was at 9 a.m. Saturday against Cincinnati. We didn't come out playing our best in set 1, but we picked it up in set 2 and 3 and pulled out a win. Cincinnati was a strong team, who was returning all its players from this past fall, so it was a great win for us. We finished the rest of the day with three more wins against Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee Tech and Western Kentucky. We still have things to fine tune, but overall it was a really good starting tournament. And it was nice to finally get out on the court and play a real match as a team!
This week in practice we have been working on a lot of blocking and defense in order to prepare for this upcoming weekend. We have a tournament at the University of Northern Iowa this Saturday. We play Wisconsin, Iowa, Northern Iowa and Iowa State so it should be an awesome day of volleyball! Stay tuned to next week's blog to find out how the weekend went!
